About the Music

James Martin has composed over 30 musical settings of poems and prose of celebrated and contemporary writers featuring the work of Poet Laureate—Louise Glück, Poet Laureate—Billy Collins, George Saunders, Carol Muske-Dukes, James Nolan, Stephen Tapscott, Doug Goetsch, W.S. Merwin, Emily Dickinson, William Butler Yeats, and Pablo Neruda among others. In 2003 James Martin formed the group “J. C. Martin Group” to perform this material. The group has performed in several venues in New York City including the Cornelia Street Cafe. Musicians for the group have included James Martin, mandolin and electric mandolin, Julianne Klopotic, violin, Jonah Speidel, keyboards/synthesizer, Fredi Meli, electric and stand up bass, Bill Moulton, keyboards/synthesizer, Lucille Goeres, flutes, and Jerome Morris and William Catanzaro percussion.
